We're Moving Forward

Finally, the selling bank has responded and has signed their papers so we can move forward with our lending bank toward closing.  As of now, it's still on for March 23rd and we are busily making plans and determining prices of supplies and tools.  Jeff, my son who will be doing the work, is more than ready to get going -- my husband and I are too.

Still in the unpacking mode here at home ... with my husband working full time (at home) and me running around like a wild woman with my son prepping for the new house stuff it's taking a lot longer to get settled than I had planned.  But you know ... the best laid plans of men ... hmmm don't always pan out. 

It's still pretty chilly and windy here in Havasu but everyone tells me that can change in the blink of an eye so I'm keeping my summer clothes close by.  From what I hear I'll be missing these chilly days in the not too distant future.

Our First Havasu House

We got an accepted offer from the bank that owns the house we're looking at so guess we're on our way. Closing will be in March so this is the planning time.  Nice little house with a big yard that is completely landscaped and a beautiful just right sized pool.  Most of our work will be on the inside updating it and making it brighter and lighter.  Here are a few "before" pictures and I'll post some "after" pictures when we're done.

I didn't get far enough away from the house to take an outside picture of the front.  The house sits on a hill as do many houses in Havasu with a rather steep driveway (also common here) and a beautiful stone terraced front yard with a nice palm tree and a view of the lake.  Most yards here are covered with stone with only a few desert plants.  Water conservation is a big concern and it's too hot in the summer for plants to survive anyway unless they are desert born.

Zeus

The plan was to buy a used truck so when we're in the process of remodeling a house we would have the ability to pick up whatever supplies we need ourselves and to be able to carry tools, etc. to the jobsite.  My son had been looking for a couple of months and most of the used trucks were somewhat abused trucks with high mileage or trucks with an somewhat iffy/unknown background.

Then "Zeus" appeared on the scene ... big truck, I mean really big truck.  Not what we were thinking we needed but beautiful -- like new insde and out -- low mileage with a heavy duty frame built for ambulances, etc. and dually tires (so we can carry pallets of ceramic tile without bottoming out) ... complete with steel tool boxes and a 5th wheel RV hitch (just in case we might want to use that in the future).  Obviously her previous owner had taken great pride in her and given her much tender loving care.  So now "Zeus" is part of our family!

Parking this baby is no easy feat.  She's longer than a standard parallel parking space and with the dual wheels not for the faint of heart of pull into an angled space either.  So far I've not driven her ... leaving that up to my son and my husband but one of these days ... hmmmmm ...

Lost & Found

Some of you know that while I was packing up the house in Tucson I lost one of my wedding rings (the one on my index finger).  Guess that's what might happen when you lose weight.  I discovered it missing when I went to take it off at night and because I numbered all my boxes each day I knew that if it had fallen off in the packing process it might be in boxes 30-39.  But I had also gone to Lowe's that day to buy extra boxes so it was possible I might have lost it when I was out.

I was very careful to go through each piece of packing paper when I opened any of the boxes in the 30's and thankfully I found my ring caught in a piece of the wrapping paper.  How blessed is that!  This is one happy lady ...

The unpacking process continues ... it's a big job ... harder than I thought it would be but I'm making progress.

And in the midst of all the mess of unpacking we're in the process of buying our first house to flip.  The fun just doesn't end.  Will try to post more regularly but most of the time I'm dog tired when I quit for the day.

Boxes, Boxes, & More Boxes

Oh my goodness!  I thought packing up was the hard part.  How to find a spot for everything in a new space is overwhelming.  Whose idea was this anyway?  Hmmmm ... guess I had a hand in it.  Must not have been thinking straight that day. 

The items you bring from your old home do not necessarily have a corresponding spot in the new place -- that would be too easy.  So I open a box, see what's inside, and just want to close it up again!  I've lived without it for the past six weeks while it was in a box ... can't I continue to live without it forever? 

I've cleared this bed off three times already today and it's loaded again ...

And this is just one section of kitchen counter -- they all look this way!

Well, my coffee break is over so back to the boxes.  Will get back to posting more regularly when I get a little more settled.  Wish me luck!
