Things That Grow ... and Brightening Up

It's springtime here in Havasu -- temps in the 70's and 80's and the plants are growing.  Now is the time to enjoy them because when it gets hot they don't do very well and they certainly don't look very good.

My husband is growing some tomatoes and one stalk of decorative corn --

I'm in the midst of spring housecleaning and decided to try to brighten up my great room area.  In our other house we had lots of big windows that provided plenty of light and we had white carpeting so the darker shades of purple and green contrasted nicely.  This house has only one window in the dining area and darker tile floors so everything has been rather dull.

I found some soft yellow fabric I liked and decided to change out the pillows.  That prompted the idea of changing out the dark tiles in my coffee and end table which I really like.  And I had a white rug in the garage from staging the house we remodeled so decided that, too, would add some light.

Here's the before --

Here's the after --

Now I've got to finish cleaning the kitchen ... re-arranged all my pantry storage early this week and defrosted the chest freezer today.  We can't store any food items in the garage because it gets so hot here so we added some shelving to the wasted space in my laundry room and it's our backup pantry.  There is a nice pantry cabinet in the kitchen but because the shelves are so deep I could not see what was in the back so we added sliding shelves on tracks and now I can pull each shelf out and easily see what's in the back.  We're renting here but there are some things I just can't do without ...

Blessings on your day!

Yard Art

We were curious so we took a ride to Chloride -- an old mining town outside of the Kingman area.  It was a cold and windy day but we were told to go looking for their unique brand of yard art.  Ok, so this is different and I think anything goes!

What's left of an old wagon?

Pots and kettles ...

An old stove and ?

An assortment of blue bottles ...

Hmmm ... there's a gate so guess they're protecting their "stuff"

If you can't find your pot or skillet, look outside ...

I'm not sure if all of this is planned chaos or just a place to put your extra stuff but it certainly is unique; and it was a fun day.

A Shopping Frenzy

Oh my!  Lake Havasu finally got a Ross store last weekend.  The shelves were loaded to the brim with items and the crowds were huge!  It looked like Christmas shopping.  We have very limited shopping here -- Dillards, Penney's, Walmart and K-Mart, Big Lots, a couple of dollar type stores  -- that's about it for the everyday stuff we're always looking for.  So Ross is a welcome addition, but I had no idea how the public was going to react to a new store in town.

Here are some pictures I took today -- one week after opening.  Remember -- these shelves were loaded and full ...

Must be there wasn't a fry pan in Havasu prior to this ...

The top shelf is entirely empty for the whole length of it ...

This is the "gourmet" food and coffe/tea section ... guess we were starved for something different.

And how did one bake a cake or cookies before this week?

There are NO hair accessories left!

And slim pickin's for some of the clothing as well.  There are still lots of dresses available though.

From looking at these pictures you would have to think that there had been no pots and pans and hair accessories available at all in Havasu and everyone was just waiting and waiting to get their hands on some. It just boggles my mind!  I'm going to stay home!

Have a great and restful weekend,

Blessings,

Backyard Friends

We are blessed to have a community of quail who visit our backyard for breakfast and dinner each day.  I can't wait until they have their babies and parade around in formation following "daddy".

They are very skittish and it takes a long time to get just a few pictures ... any detected movement or noise and off they go.

Happy Monday & blessings,

I only wanted a little ...

BUT I got a lot!

I just touched the button once for a small dollop of shave cream and WOW!  It didn't stop churning away; I frantically kept hitting the button to see if I could get it to close but to no avail.

The picture is blurry because by then I was laughing so hard I couldn't hold the camera still.  It's the small things in life that can make memories.

Fill your day with happy memories, Blessings,
